Airlie Beach is the Gateway to the Withsundays, you know, those white sand islands that became popular for their offer of the best the job in the world… We absolutely want to go there, so we book a boat tour. The weather is a bit cloudy but at least it doesn’t rain so it’s not so bad. We are a bit disappointed because it doesn't look as good as in the advertising pictures but it's still beautiful. We are right in the middle of the jelly fish season which means that we can swim in the sea but only if we wear this very sexy stingersuit to protect us. On the boat trip, we meet a young Argentinian guy (Franscisco) with which we spend the whole day chatting. We’ve suddenly been hit by the fact that we are getting older. This guy just finished his studies and was travelling before starting university, he was just 18 years old, god, that was 10 years ago for us! When we are back to Airlie Beach, we spend the evening with Francisco. The next morning we wake up quite early because it was very hot in the car, so we walk in the city centre waiting for the supermarket to open so we can have breakfast. At around 8 AM Francisco calls us and we pick him up. He is going south like us so we agreed to drive him to Macay where he was staying with some friends.

Food was ok, but not excellent... service sucks, you have to order your food at the counter. Expensive for what it was.

7h45, we're ready to jump aboard the ''Manta Ray''. We didn't Scuba, as visibility that day was awful, but was good enough to snorkel. Don't forget your stinger suit, as there could be dangerous jelly fish around!

Prices in Airlie Beach leaves us with no choice but to sleep in the car. It's so touristic that even backpackers are way too expensive for us.

Wonderful place even with clouds and rain, no wonder this area offered ''the best job in the world'' not so long ago.

Except going to the Withsundays, there's not much to do in Airlie Beach

This info center is nice, they don't push you to buy any tour in particular, and even take the time to compare offers according to your needs. Very good staff ; D
