Byron Bay is the surfing capital of the east coast so as soon as we have found a camping, we book 2 surfboards for the next day then we take a dip in the swimming pool. We hadn’t taken the surf course because we already had one so we know the basics but we asked the teacher if we could follow him to a nice beach for beginners. More than 1h later we arrive in a sound with big rocks all around. We have to swim to a less dangerous place further in the ocean, but there aren’t many good waves and the current is so strong we spend more time paddling than surfing. Suddenly Adeline sees a fin passing between her and another surfer, she is so afraid this could be a shark because she is bleeding on the foot. But when the cetacean comes closer she sees it’s a dolphin. Woaw, she had never seen a dolphin so close to her in the wild, she could touch it. But all of a sudden it started raining really bad, and we couldn’t see anything, it was like everything had dissapeard, the beach, the other surfers, it was very scary. Hopefully we managed to find each other and then the teacher came to us and asked us to swim back to the beach but heading to the Ocean sothat the current would’t send us on the rocks. Once we are back on the land, the surf course is over so they leave but they drive us to another beach where we can both surf during the afternoon. We have a small lunch, a jam bread that makes one of Adeline’s teeth fall :-S and then we are back on the surfboards. After a full day surfing we were all inflamated and injured but it was worth it. The next day, we play it more relax and visit Cape Byron’s lighthouse.

First spot was a weird spot: strong current, huge jelly fishs around BUT Adeline got one nice wave AND a dolphin was swimming close to us. Second Spot : Main Beach, huge waves just crushed us!

Very nice campground. Expensive, but we needed a good night sleep. 35 AUD per night.

Byron Bay is certainly a nice place, but looks like it has become a nest of Hippies and Bobo's... Not everyone can afford this place...
