Descente en chaise en plastique
Oct 30, 2009
On re-essayerait bien

Very nice but long walk along the cliffs, up and down the hills.

The best pizza place in town as would say Joseph. This is in fact the only pizza place in town but it's very good. It's also a bar with a very good atmosphere. We definitely recommend it.

Surfing

Wow! First we have to draw a board on the sand in order to practise how to get up on the board. Then, we need to do it for real in the water. Adeline is the first person of the group who manages to get up. In fact, she gets up at her first try. It's not easy to control the board and you need some strengh in order to be able to get up while the wave is pushing you but once you know the trick and take your time it's so fun.

Cliff diving

First we have to climb the cliff. When you arrive up there, don't look down... Just jump and far away from the cliff. The water is cold but it's so much fun.

Our crazy couch surfer host in Plettenberg Bay had recommended us to spend 2 or 3 days in Coffee Bay so we can relax a bit. She said it was a charming small typical village not too touristic and still virgen and undevelopped. Maybe the crazy girl wasn't so crazy after all. Or maybe did she have a brief moment of lucidity. Anyway, this was a very good advice and we finally spent 5 nights there (our longest stay is one same place).
We must admit that we almost didn't make it there because the road was so difficult. Not only is it a tortuous montain road but to add to the difficulty the road is full of potholes. We mean, really full of potholes. Charles was turning left, right, centre trying to avoid them but we still hit some of them. Hopefully we finally arrived in Coffee Bay with our four tires still ok.
We stayed at the coffee shack and the atmosphere is just perfect. The first day, Joseph, who will be our principal activity organizer, takes us for a walk to his village. He shows us the huts, explains how they are made and even shows us his room. It's precair but there is a lot of space. Back to the camp, we can play pool whenever we like and that's how we meet most of our new friends.
Every day, there is a different activity organized by the backpacker. We first walked (3-4 hours) to the hole in the wall. The next day, we have a beach day, we learn how to surf and we play beach volley. In the evening, Joseph invites us to his village in order for us to discover his cuture. We drink their own brewed beer (disgusting), eat their food, danse with them, play with the children,... Very interesting evening. Then the following day we walk to the caves and jump from a cliff into a river. The last night we spent there was the full moon party and this was crazy. We mixed all kind of alcohols and could still feel it the following morning. But still we had the courage to go for a drum lesson at 9 AM.
This stay at Coffee Bay was really one of the best (if not the best). Landscapes are wonderful and this way of life is so relaxing. No pollution, no worries, no money but nice deserted beaches.

The place you have to stay. First thing when you book your stay, you recieve a welcome drink. The place is very nice and clean enough for a backpacker. They propose a lot of different and interresting activities every day. Food is delicious and inexpensive. The fifth night is free, so are the pool table, the various hamacas, singing + drumming shows and oysters and mossels at the bar.

Don't think too much about moving somewhere else... it will only ruin your pleasure in Coffe Bay... besides, you won't leave on the date you first had in mind ; D
