On the road from Farewell Spit to Hokitika, we make several intersting stops. The first one is at Tekaka where there are the clearest and purest spring waters of New Zealand (or is it of the world ?). Its a very nice short walk bringing us to a small lake with amazing colours, from dark blue to emerald green. We continue our nature trip by passing through the Canaan area in the Abel Tasman National Park to the famous (mainly for it’s casualties) Harwood’s Hole. This place is more than impressive, the walk to the hole makes you feel like a adventurer discovering a hidden paradise and the Harwood’hole, this gigantic cave is just breathtaking. You have only one wish, to pass the rocks trap and abseil to the bottom of the hole or maybe just to get to the very border in order to have a clearer view on its depth. After this adrenaline full excursion, we need some relaxation which we find on the banks of the beautiful mirror like Rotorua Lake. It’s a pity the air is so chilly because we could have spent the whole day here but that’s not so bad, it gives us the opportunity to drive further in order to have a look at those famous pancake like rocks. After having seen the 12 Apostles in Australia, we are not very impressed by the landscape but we aknowledge it would look amazing for virgen eyes. We then arrive in Hokitika which will only serve us as a stopover for the night on our way to the glaciers.
