Train First Class soft sleeper ; D
Nov 22, 2009
Waooow, cabins in this kind of train are just amazing, it's more luxurious than most hotels we've done so far. Only regret, we travelled a small distance. We also need to precise it costs 3 times the price of a hard sleeper.

Beautiful place, with a sort of maze made of rocks you have to walk to reach a nice pond behind. Architecture and all is very nice!

Breakfast at Mc Donalds ; D

As we arrived pretty early, this was the only place we found open (it's open 24h) so we got a nice and cheap breakfast there.

Fishermen's Island

Was a nice walk on a used-to-be Fisherman's island. You can still have a look at how houses were. Now you'll find mostly handcratfts.

Super Market Noodles
Nov 22, 2009
Pre prepared Noodles are a must in China. You can find a huge range of flavors, so you just pick the one you like the most. You just add boiling water, available EVERYWHERE, (and I mean it) and that's it. You have a one person meal ready in 3 min.

La ''ruelle'' aux Lampions
Nov 22, 2009
You can have a walk at night next to a small river that goes through the town. The nice red lights makes it so beautiful!! During the day it loses all it's charme. It's a must do if you ever go to Suzhou.

You can get a fresh Octopus grilled in front of you!! Then you get it on a brochette. Charles find it a bit too chewy, Adeline loves it!!

If you want to take your time to visit, and see things you're actually interested in, don't book a tour as we did from the very moment you step out of the train. BUT if like us, you have to carry heavy back packs, don't get a word of Chinese, and have little time to spend,etc.. Then this is very convenient way to move around.

We are not even out of the station yet that we are being accosted (not to say harrassed) from all sides for cheap hotels, tours,... For god's sake, it's not even 8AM, let us breathe!
We find a hotel in the city centre, leave our bags there and go for a walk searching for an ATM because again, we ran short of money.
At 10 AM we join a tour to visit some of the city's gardens. They are all different and nicer one from another. But as usual with the organized tours, we are taken to fabrics and souvenir shops...
In the evening we get lost in the small lantern streets along the canals of the city. It's soooo nice, that's all an atmosphere.
That's also in souzhou that we tasted the faboulous octopus cooked in the streets. That's just delicious!
