On our way to Whakatane we admire the wonderful Tokomaru Bay and then we make a quick alt at Tikitiki where we visit a Maori church full of nice carvings. Quite a special mix of culture here. We head to East Cape and walk up the 700 steps to the top of the hill where the old lighthouse is still standing. Nice view from up here !
We still have a few kms before arriving in Whakatane and we’re running out of gas, but we’re used to pray the car not to let us down. We manage to drive 30km with the arrow totally down. As we are on Tuesday and it’s the movie day, we look for the cinema. We wanted to watch BOY, a kiwi movie, but we have to wait until 20h.
We decide to eat something at the nearby cafe. Good food, god wine ; D
When we head to the movies at quarter to 8, we discover that Boy is sold out, we’ll have to watch Shutter Island instead…. The next day, we go to the info centre where we spend 3h on the free internet then we go back to the same restaurant as we went yesterday, the food was still as good but service at lunch time can’t compete with evening time.
