Las Vegas, Nevada

After my plans to do a day-trip in Phoenix fell through due to a delay, I ended up in Las Vegas. Much like my impression from last year, Vegas continues to get more impressive and more opulent at an unstoppable pace. The sheer wealth on display in some of the newer hotels is just incredible.

Since I only had about six hours to explore, I quickly went to a number of the big hotels - Bellagio, Paris, Wynn, Palazzo, Caesar's Palace - and walked up and down the strip.

For dinner I visited the "Le Village" buffet at Paris. The atmosphere was great, food was decent, but food selection was amazing - about anything you could possibly want was there.

Perhaps due to the time of year, Las Vegas was noticeably less busy than I remember. Nearly all of the fancy retail outlets were empty, traffic on the strip wasn't bad, and the cassinos just didn't seem very crowded.

Though I'm not a gambler, I did put $5 into a slot machine. As soon as I hit $6 I cashed out. My $1 profit made my day trip to Vegas complete!

My flight to JFK was delayed, missing my connection to PHX.

Me: Ok, then fly me somewhere else.
JetBlue: Well, where do you want to go?
Me: Uh, how about Las Vegas?
JetBlue: Ok, here's your boarding pass and free hotel at JFK tonight.

Guess I'm taking a day trip to Vegas! Red-eying back to JFK tonight then immediately back out to San Francisco.
