I landed in Dulles at 4:45AM after almost no sleep and immediately boarded the coach service to the Church Falls metro station. I was in Federal Triangle shortly after 6AM and found some breakfast to keep my energy for the rest of the day. After finding a Starbucks near the White House to do some work, I decided to walk out to the lawn near the Washington Monument to hold an important phone call (couldn't think of a quieter place I had access to indoors).

I walked down the reflecting pool to the Lincoln memorial, then across the bridge to the Arlington National Cemetery (which unfortunately wasn't very walkable).

Having done so much walking in DC alone (not to mention all of the walking in Los Angeles the "day" before) I spent a few hours at the hostel resting, then went back out to visit the White House. I then made the walk up Connecticut Ave to Dumont plaza and found a charming little Malaysian restaurant for lunch/dinner.

Once the sun went down I did a bit more walking around metro center area, but I'm deciding now to go to bed early and get a good night's rest for a solid day of work tomorrow, after which I hope to explore Capitol Hill and Georgetown University.

One of the best hostels I've been to in the United States, if not the best (though the Chicago one is probably a close second). Very large, clean, and no-hassle.

The DC Metro system is probably my favorite in the country. Very clean, modern, on-time, and never super crowded. Stations and stops are clearly marked.

All of the buildings in DC seem so modern - so unlike other large cities that always have old buildings mixed in with the new. Walking around downtown is very pleasant.

DC blocks are very large, so what looks on the map to be a short distance is probably very large.

I spent most of the day working, but decided to explore Capitol Hill and Georgetown. I walked around the Capitol and the Eastern Market down Pennsylvania avenue with several nice shops and many important-looking patrons.

I then took the metro to Rossyln, VA and walked across the bridge over to Georgetown, which has to be one of the most charming towns I've visited. My pictures give a great idea of the environment, but it's very clear that this both a very nice and very expensive place to live. Lining M Street and Wisconsin Ave were many quaint shops and places to eat, including Georgetown Cupcake Shop, where I stopped for a bite to eat.

On the walk down M street on the way to GWU (Foggy Bottom metro station) I stopped by the "Old Stone House", which apparently is the oldest remaining building in the Washington, DC area - built before the American Revolution.

Once back in DC I met up with a friend at Chinatown and had "authentic" Chinese food.
