On day 6 we travel by bus to coastal Napier in the sun-drenched Hawkes Bay (3 hours). Known for its fine wines, gourmet food, art deco designs and wonderful beaches, Hawkes Bay is New Zealand's Mediterranean enclave. Wrap your taste buds around local beer, cider, wine and chocolate tasting as we cycle through the wineries and orchards of the area. Please note that under New Zealand legislation bicycle helmets are compulsory. Bicycle helmets are provided and must be worn. Follow your group leader downtown for a tour of the city's art deco heritage, a legacy of the devastating 1931 Napier Earthquake. There is spare time to prowl the isles of an antique shop, stroll Marine Parade for views of the Pacific Ocean or explore Cape Kidnapper's gannet colonies.
