A few days of downtime in Munich, Germany. I always use Munich or London as a base while in Europe due it's ease to fly in and out of. The city is in full work mode getting ready for Oktoberfest starting September 17th.
Please take note of this picture for the main entrance of Oktoberfest. I like to refer to it as the calm before the storm! The structure you see here will be decked out and draped with hops and other greenery from Bavaria in less than 3 weeks.
One of the many famous Oktoberfest tents (referred to by the locals as Wies'n)that will be filled with several thousand thirsty beer drinkers. Then tents are not necessarily tents, but rather semi-permanent structures for the three weeks that make up Oktoberfest.
Ongoing construction of the Lowenbrau tent.
Inside an empty tent that is getting close to finished leading up to the start of Oktoberfest. The start of the festivities will commence on September 17th, 2011.
The famous Viktaulienmarket in Munich.
View from high above Munich on Old Peter, a famous church tower. This photo is looking down upon Marienplatz--the largest pedestrian area in Munich.
A May Pole in the Viktaulienmarket in Munich. Lots of history behind the origins of the May Poles that used to be erected in all the small towns and villages in Bavaria every spring.

Looks great. By the way, I just took some photos of myself at work - do you think there is a market out there for a nice blog of that sort of thing?

Oktoberfest! Did you buy some new Lederhosen? I want to know what the trends are for this year with the Dirndls.
