Keep searching!

Sep 25, 2009

More cruising today as we pushed as close to the border as we could, so we can cross tomorrow. Pretty quiet day all and all. Mostly just a lot of military checkpoints. It's completely random whether they want to stop you, and then it's hit or miss how much they feel like searching. Some make us open just about everything, others just poke around here and there and then send us on our way. I stand by the side and try to make small talk w/ the soldiers that are on guard while Noah answers all the questions and explains what everything is. They look intimidating when you come up to the checkpoints, but once you get out, you realize that most of the time, you're dealing with extremely young boys.

Somehow we missed the turn off to Arriega and ended up going up and over a high mountain pass just as it was getting dark. Oops! We found a round about way back down the mountain to town and pulled in to a hotel late. Time for some sleep for the next country tomorrow!

Throughout the day we felt a weird vibration in the van and especially the steering wheel and stopped a few times trying to determine what was wrong. The next morning we finally got the van off the ground and figured out that one of our tires broke and internal radial or something, causing it to develop a bump in one area. First stop off in the morning was for another new tire. Our second of the trip so far!
