I got behind the wheel first thing today, to finish driving all the way across the state of Montana. Sure, Laura’s done the whole country (twice), but I’m newly licensed. Baby steps. And it’s a big state! We saw a lot of wild animals, and by that I mostly mean a bunch of deer, but they’re cute. There was a whole family, a mom and a dad and a baby and I legit wanted to pull over and hang out with them buttttt you know. We switched drivers once we hit Idaho, which had the most amazing view and a good pull-off spot right at the state line so we could get a couple awesome pictures. There was also a questionable abandoned boat on the side of the road, which we might have taken if not for Wendell’s lack of towing capabilities. Who doesn’t want a boat?! Once we reached Washington state, we had a search for the largest milk bottle and red wagon in Spokane. The milk bottle is part of a restaurant, and the red wagon is a pretty awesome slide in a park by a river. Laura slid down and only burned herself a little on the metal slide. It was then onto George, WA. to find the world’s largest cherry pie, which we THOUGHT was going to be a sculpture or a big plastic or metal thing, but as it turns out, it was a real pie. I say “was” a pie, because apparently it is a huge REAL pie that they bake every year on July 4th… and we got there on the 5th. Missed it by one little day, and I guess the 300-something people that live in George each had a few pounds of pie to put away the ½-ton thing before we got into town. Bummer!
