Three more hours of dust balls, oil derricks,* and wide open road. Pretty boring, but for some reason we both felt pretty strong. Maybe we were buoyed by the second half of the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. Probably my least favorite of the three Larson books, but still great. Not sure what were going to do when it’s finally over.

About 9 pm we rolled in to Abeline. Couldn’t really tell much about the city at night, but there did seem to be quite a few chain restaurants and lots of highway. Our GPS failed us (again), and we got lost for about 20 mins before reaching the hotel. A quick check-in, an easy move-in, a few beers, and some work on the blog before hitting the sack.

Ahhh…morning in Abeline. The view from the hotel by the freeway was spectacular, the air was hot and heavy, and the coffee shops were hard to find. After pulling over to do a bit of iPhone research we found a Starbucks a few blocks away. Parked next to a sales guy (?) frantically making calls and walking in circles around a tree. Q: What does the fifth ring of hell look like? A: Harried sales guy doing business in Abeline, TX strip mall.

Coffees and gross-looking and dangerously hot breakfast sandwiches on the road. Three hours or so of the same types of sights we’ve seen since Scottsdale. Mostly flat, dry, landscapes and tiny, hanging-by-a-thread towns. Not much to report.
