From the PP campsite to Arcata, about 45 mins to the south. Home to Humboldt State and a famous pot smoking culture. This is the town where guidebooks claim people smoke joints in the town square. Cannot confirm that, but will go on the record to say that everyone in Arcata seemed high. Really.
After a quick driving tour, we stop for brunch at a hippy lunch spot, Golden Harvest. For me: California Benedict (bacon, tomato, avocado, hollandaise); for LVL: California Cristo (French toast sandwich, with several types of fake meat). Both came with tons and tons of grilled potatoes. High expectations* for the meal, lots of potential to the menu, decent actual food. Nothing great though, except maybe for the blond dreads on the college-aged woman in the booth behind us. Stereotype personified.
* Not that kind of high.
