We arrived in Frisco a little before 6:30, a bit cranky after another (short) driving rain storm and tons of traffic on the North Dallas Toll Road. Frisco is a northern suburb/exurb of Dallas. It looks and feels like most urban sprawl, with lots of wide streets, strip malls, and chain stores.

After chilling for a minute, we head over to Billy Christensen’s house for a beer before heading out to dinner. He lives in a brand new, enormous brick house that still smells new, has pictures sitting on the floor ready to hang, and boxes of baby stuff waiting to get built. Not sure I’d want to live in Frisco, no matter how big/nice my house, but something like Billy’s place would certainly help with the transition.

So great to be able to catch up with Bill and Tim, both good friends of mine from high school. Each seems to be doing pretty well, though they both report missing Hawaii. Once again, I wish we all lived closer and/or I wish I was better about keeping in touch with people.

Dinner at La Hacienda Ranch for a sampling of Frisco’s best tex-mex. While in TX, one is obliged to gorge on tex-mex and BBQ. “Pescaterians” don’t dig smoked meat so much, however, so we’ve been going heavy on the tex-mex. We can safely say that LHR does great beef brisket tacos (me), queso with ground beef, and frozen margaritas. In fact, according to the menu, Mariano, the man who first opened LHR, invented the frozen margarita. The machine he used now sits in the Smithsonian. Pretty cool. Also cool, to be able to hang out with old friends, tell stories, etc.

Just as the four of us were finishing dinner, Timmy’s new girlfriend, Stacy, joined us, as did Ed Moore, another friend of mine from Hawaii. A great night.
