After the north shore drive, we showered and then rode with Kii and Maka to meet Maka’s dad at Kin Wah Chop Suey, their favorite Chinese place on the windward side. Great to see Bob again, and much fun to watch him interact with his son and daughter-in-law.

Makaena ordered for everyone, and there was no sparing anything (or anyone). Here’s my best guess at the menu:

• Scallop soup (to start)
• Crispy gau gee and fried wonton
• Shrimp and (candied) walnuts
• Cold ginger chicken
• Beef broccoli with chow mein noodles
• Fish and Chinese broccoli
• Scallop and mushrooms
• Fried duck
• A huge bowl of steamed rice

As I said (and may have repeated), the Pulis can eat. And they enjoy it. This was a truly local-style, family Chinese place. The food was outside of my normal Chinese restaurant repertoire, which was perfect. Everything tasted and looked great. The service/atmosphere were both a lot of fun to see again, and brought back memories of very particular (and hard to articulate) aspects of my childhood. A great way to end the day.
