Three or so hours after leaving Santa Rosa, and through some of the most boring, flat, nondescript landscape yet, we pulled in to Cancun Mexican Restaurant for a late lunch. Great reviews on Yelp and close to Hwy 84, we went for it. My #30 (a burrito, frito queso, and less memorable third item) was just ok. The sauce was a bit bland, and the frito queso was definitely not what I expected.* LVL’s veggie quesadilla looked good (tons of veggies, smothered in the same liquid queso), but was too “heavy.” In the abstract, a pretty good stop for Mexican; we both ate most of our plates, etc. In Texas, however, with all the other BBQ/Mexican/etc possibilities, a little disappointing. Also disappointing: We lost another hour after crossing in to TX. Ick. The closer we inch to Eastern Time, the more fleeting our trip feels. We are now actively thinking and talking about how sad it is that the end of the adventure is closing in.

After almost forgetting my glasses on the table (LVL ran in to get them) and marveling at the people (esp the women, who all wear crazy amounts of make-up, prefer overly coiffed hair dos, and dress for something other than a casual Sunday lunch) in Lubbock, we hit the road. Confirmed: we will not be Lubbock residents any time soon.

* I wanted a friend hunk of cheese. I got a tostada shell covered with ground beef and topped with cheesy queso. Pretty tasty, but not what I had in mind.
