From Punahou to Waikiki, where we parked at Ala Moana Beach Park/Magic Island. After watching the fisherman and the paddlers for a few minutes, we walked to the heart of Honolulu tourist land. Waikiki looks exactly the same, save a few new stores and restaurants. Same huge groups of Japanese tourists; camera-toting, sunburned mainlanders; ABC stores on every corner; trolleys, taxis, city busses, and cars/trucks full of locals “cruisin’ Waiks.” Stops at Arnold’s Beach Bar and Grill and China Garden added to the touristy authenticity of our visit. As did the strolls through Hilton Hawaiian Village, the International Marketplace, pictures in front of the Duke statue, and the end of sunset on Waikiki Beach. Great stuff.
