After trying – for the third time – to get into Boots and Kimo’s for breakfast, we hop in The Monster Truck and head on H-3 to the other side of the island.

Shiro’s Saimin, a very local spot in a very local spot in town, for brunch/lunch. LVL pretty much stays away from the local fair, sticking with coffee, eggs, and a banana pancake. I order a side of fried rice and a huge bowl of spicy saimin (noodles; char siu; mysterious lunch meat; an assortment of Chinese-type vegetables; and three or four won-tons). Maka and Kii go for the saimin on top of pancakes (his) and French toast (hers). Great saimin and very respectable fried rice. Would be a regular at Shiro’s if I still lived here. LVL, I’m not so sure. [Ed. note: They had veggie saimin that I would gladly try on another day, once I've had breakfast first. I know Shiro says that anytime is saimin time, but I prefer it mid- or late-day and once I've already had my eggs.]
