The last time I had been in Washington DC I was a seventh grade punk from a very small town who possessed very little vision of the world let alone the country I lived in. Obviously things have changed a bit but when it comes to DC, I felt like I was retracing so many of the same steps that I had taken in that hot summer of '91. The thing with monuments is that they aren't meant to change. So much of the city is such and with that, I was struggling a bit to find some of the inspiration and vibrancy I had felt in all of my cities previously. Although this represents our nations history and recognizes the many sacrifices so many people before me have made, photographing monuments isn't as easy as I had thought it would be. I found myself often asking if they are meant to be photographed and what their relevance would be on Hotshoo often. Georgetown, old Arlington, and a new project on the other side of the Potomac called National Harbor were very cool and more relevant for me. The people of DC are generally well dressed the city and subway very well manicured and the architecture VERY understated and lacking of color. Off to Orlando for a quick stop and Bogota for what will be my first trip to South America, a trip which I am very much looking forward!
