Just before our snorkelling trip we met a Norwegian couple also waiting to start a snorkelling day. 5 days earlier one of their countrymen had planted a bomb in a government building and shot 90 something kids at a political summer camp. The conversation went something like this:
- So where're you from?
- Norway.
- Oh...sorry to hear about what happened.
- What do you mean?
- ...The terrorist attack.
- What terrorist attack (rising panic in their voices).
- Have you seen the news lately?
- No, we've been out of touch with home since we started our trip. Why what's happened?
- erm...well (Nic and Sacha glancing at each other). There was a terrorist attack in Oslo about five days ago.
- (stunned silence)
- A gunman shot and killed about 90 kids on an island summer camp and detonated a bomb in a government building in the capital.
- What?!?
- Sorry to be the ones who have to tell you this.
- What? Kids?
- Ja, they tried to swim away when he opened fire but they got tired and when they returned to shore he just stood there shooting them one by one (Nic kicking Sacha under the table to shut up). Only six people died in the bombing though....I hope your families are ok.
- Ya, us too. But we're going snorkelling now the whole day so we won't be able to contact them...
- (our turn to sit in silence)...We have to go now but we're really sorry about the news, good luck, hope everything's okay, bye!

At the "back dock" on Caye Caulker we went looking for fresh seafood. I asked a fisherman how much for his biggest lobster, he snarled at me, lifted the angry, cat-sized crustacean out of the cooler box, broke off one of it´s legs (while it clawed the air with the rest of them) and held it up to my face.
We bought prawns instead.
