Have had an amazing time in Chitwan, a definite highlight of the trip. We were there for two days and crammed a lot in.
day 1 - I went for an all-day jungle trek in the jungle and it was brilliant. After an early start we took off in jeeps and drove about an hour to another part of the park. On the way we saw crocodiles (mainly only their heads in the water), beautiful birds and deer. A short boat (more of hollowed out truck made into a canoe) ride across the river and we were ready for our trek. It was really hot and humid but it was well worth it. We walked around 18kms and unfortunately didn't see rhinos, tigers or elephants but saw more crocs, monkeys, wild boar and loads of deer. An afternoon shower left us refreshed as we walked in the rain but we were soon dry and overheating again. We also visited a crocodile breeding centre.
Just as we were about to get the boat back we were hit by torrential rain, thunder and lightning. We got soaked to the skin but had a very memorable river crossing. By the time we got back to the hotel we were like drowned rats but we all really enjoyed the day.
Day 2 was elephant day. We visited a breeding centre first thing in the morning where we saw a 2 month old elephant who was very cute and cheeky. There is also one set of elephant twins there who were 2 years old. Twins are very rare with elephants so they are very special.
Then we were at the river for some bathing with the elephants, it was great fun and I am sure the elephants enjoyed it too. In the afternoon we went on an elephant ride through the jungle and saw deer, monkey, crocs (as we were going across the river!) and an owl.
In the evening we had a Nepalese night, curry for dinner and then some local male dancers gave us a display which was spectacular. They danced with sticks and fire and the last dance involved us getting up too. Luckily the sticks and fire weren't needed for this one. A great night.
This has been an amazing place and I have already organised my return visit in a few weeks.
