After Uluru we drove around 25kms and went to visit more red rock. Uluru is the big tourist attraction but to me Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) is much more impressive. We walked a few miles around the rocks and once again the sky was an amazing backdrop to every photograph. A spectacular natural phenomenon.

this I can reemmber a day when my dad took us walking in the forest and we had to hide behind trees because a whole pack of wild pigs came running through just about 20m from us. I really didn't feel safe then!!
the sky was even more beautiful than last night, everything was so clear. We saw a couple of satellites. I slept really well and when I woke up around 5am I thought I could hear a wild animal near me and then I realised it was only Brian snoring!

the wonderful Coober Pedy
Oct 15, 2011
we arrived in Coober Pedy early in the morning and the town was still shut! Coober Pedy is famous for opal mines, houses underground (as the heat is so fierce it was described as 'face melting in the Lonely Planet) and films such as Priscilla, Mad Max 3, Red Zone and Pitch Black. We had two hours to spend in the town so we went to the Old Timers Mine, which is an mine and museum that gives you a glimpse into how things were from 1916 onwards. It was interesting but also had the feel of a scholl project. There were a couple of examples of rooms of how people would have lived underground in the 70s and 80s. Good to see but I wouldn't want to live that way.
I loved Coober Pedy, we have visited lots of amazing cultural places along the way, temples, Wats and museums, this was a place with e good sense of humour, which I think must be a necessity if you lived in this strange town. I might have loved the town but I'm not in a hurry to go back!
