For roughly $50 each, we were driven around all day in a little van (Kip and I were the only ones on the tour). In Rawson, I paid the extra $30 to head out into the ocean to see the rare Commerson Dolphins, which only live in two places in the entire world. They are some of the worlds smallest dolphins, and black and white like killer whales! We found a whole group of them out in the ocean, and they followed our boat around, racing us and jumping in and out of the water along the bow. SO cool.
After that, we went to see the penguins at Punta Tombo. Pretty cool to see penguins in the wild, but it wasn't a 2 hour experience...basically 10 minutes worth of interested, repeated for 2 hours. It wasn't quite like the nature channel - more like a zombie movie where the zombies just stood around.
We killed time most of the day, and did a little food shopping for the 19 hour bus ride to Buenos Aires. Once on the bus, it turns out we sat behind Ryo - a guy who we had seen in passing at the random hotel we stayed at in Rio Gallegos 3 nights ago. This turned out to be a sign of good times to come on the bus...
Not only did we have someone to talk with a bit, but they showed great movies (Dark Night, Count of Monte Cristo, and other less memorable ones), AND Kip won the bus sponsored game of Bingo! A bottle of wine was his prize. I could only wonder what would have happened if one of the many children on board had won?
