The spirit of our facial hair competition (we hadn't shaved for the whole month of December) died this morning when Kip shaved it all off. (I would keep the psuedo goatee until getting back to Colorado)

We ate lunch at Monaco - right on the corner of the two mains streets in town mostly for their free wifi. However, it was smoky and the food wasn't that good. The music being played throughout the restaurant must have been from the Nirvana Unplugged DVD. How do I know? Because when it ended, the DVD returned to the title screen which played the same 15 second instrumental on repeat. This went on for over an hour - and continued even after we had left.

Smoky and the food wasn't good enough to remember. Free wi-fi though.

At the grocery store, this cute little girl came up to us and asked incredulously if we spoke english. She couldn't speak it herself, but was amazed we could, and rushed off to tell her mom. When she returned, it seemed like she was trying to tell us she was a jumping champion?!? Okay, so maybe I'm not fluent.

This town has basically nothing to offer. It's dusty and barren, and so far towards "non-touristy" that there really isn't anything to do or see.

Often hostels and hotels listed in Lonely Planet seem to have dramatically higher prices (perhaps due to the increased number of tourists who stop there?). Be willing to go elsewhere.

Dear chef, the menu advertises calzones, but you don't know how to make them? Make a pizza, fold in half. Serve.

We're so used to finding cabs whenever we need them that we'll wait till the last minute. This time though, we barely made it in time.

At the bus station, there was only 1 bus, but it was both a different color and company than what we bought out tickets for. It was a good thing I asked, because it turns out that they merged two busses from different companies, and this was ours.

Both Kip and I had a harder time sleeping in the seats (even though they were "nicer"). There was little/no storage space, and the movies were harder to see. They fed us an entire meal at 11:30pm, the same time they started an entirely new movie?!?

This place had tiny rooms that weren't so great, but the bathroom was really nice. There wasn't a ton of common space (more hotel than hostel), but the fun part was that there only seemed to be 1 or 2 other occupied rooms (out of 12), so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Room was surprisingly expensive - $40, but cheaper than the $55 being charged by the first place we stopped.

Why is it so hard to find places to eat that don't call themselves pizzerias?
