Thanks to the guy at the hostel I made my way to the Brazilan side of Foz do Iguaçu on the city bus, as opposed to going through a tour company. A city bus only cost $R2,20 and took about 15 minutes from my hostel to the park entrance. I love the fact that I´m visiting a lot of places in the off season, there are a lot less crowds which is great for taking photos.
I could hear the falls even before I got off the bus. Inside the park I hopped on a bus and headed to the falls. It is absolutley amazing to follow the noise of the water and then to actually see the falls themself. There are a number of rivers that feed into one to make the falls but it doesn´t seem possible that there enough water to constanly keep the falls going. There are many beautiful views of the falls. Including a walkway that lets you see and feel the falls. I have no idea how they were able to build this cement walkway in a place that is soaking wet. They of course sell ponchos for those that want to go on the walkway and get soaked, although even with a ponch (or in my case a waterproof jacket) some part of you is going to get very wet.
The park is home to many beautiful butterflys, some of which I read were poisonous. In addition to the many butterflys the park has a serious infestation of coati. There are signs everywhere not to pet or feed them, but of course this is ignored. A couple of times I saw people petting them. I´m always amazed when I see people petting wild animals as if they were normal house pets, and then they always seem surprised when something goes wrong. Near the food courts attendants are constantly chasing them off.
Just as it was at Machu Picchu I could not stop taking pictures. The water creates these beautiful bright rainbows. The falls are just part of the park and offers quite a bit for visitors.
