Four Seasons Mahe

Wooow. I've stayed at some beautiful properties before, including Four Seasons around the world, but thus far, this place in terms of wow factor, location, and architecture, is the most beautiful. The rooms are actually villas clinging to the gorgeous granite cliffs that plunge down to the spectacular white sands and unbelieveable multi-hued waters that characterize the Seychelles. Our so-called plunge pool was really a large, deep, swimmable pool with mesmerizing views. The bed and bathroom in typical four seasons resort style are huge and linens worldclass. The deck had two separate sun bed areas, one shaded, one not. You'll need the shaded, the sun here is brutal and unlike anywhere else. Decor is understanded and peacful. We were upgraded, literally, to a villa at the very top of the property. Calling a golf cart, or 'buggy', is pretty necessary to get to the bottom of the property where the beach and one of the restaurants are located unless you are in awesome condition. We would walk to the midpoint of the resort, where the restaurant Zaz was (as well as the library), and luckily we were adjacent to the spectacular spa, but to go down or up to the beach definitely required a buggy service for us, which was never a problem. Both restaurants were excellent. The fairly new sushi bar was a great touch. We had the mediterraean buffet one night which featured a program of local Seychellois dance and song, which was very good. Another night we had an Italian buffet which was again, excellent. Room service food was not as good as the restaurant food, probably because of the long haul up, it would get cold. Off the beach was actually very good snorkeling, particuarly on the left side along the grantie boulders. The ocean temps are bathwater warm. The aforementioned spa is just amazing. I had one of the best massages of my life there, but the design and peacfulness of the place are what truly sets it apart. We were the only Americans I believe, the property is full of prosperous beautiful people from Europe and is great people watching. Everything is insanely expensive, but I suppose you get what you pay for, and in this case, what you get is almost priceless.
