Polish Surprise

I didn't know what to expect from this city, but Krakow is an incredibly pleasant town!! The old city is quaint and concentrated around a fantastic square, and a wonderful garden ring runs around the city. Great place for a run!!

Auschwitz
May 16

This is one of the must-dos if you are in Krakow. The remains of the concentration camp are about an hour and a half by bus from the city, and buses regularly come and go from the gates.

I'm not going to lie - visiting this camp, and the adjacent death camp Birkinau, is a traumatizing experience. But it is our duty to go and bear witness to the remains of the horrors of the past, in order to ensure that it doesn't happen again in the future.

Stag Parties
May 16

Friday night in Krakow, and I get my first taste of these. These days, Eastern Europe is under siege from British bachelors. Hoards of these prowlers take their about-to-be-wed buddies jet off on budget airlines to places like Riga, Vilnius, and Krakow. If you're walking down the streets in the evening, prepared to be confronted by these beer-drinking cajolers.

Tips
Jewish Krakow
Really interesting old Jewish neighborhood just outside the old city. Just don't try to go explore it on a Saturday.
Thoughts
The Planty Garden ring. Never thought I'd find good running this close to downtown Krakow.
