Rexburg earned its name from the German translation of “Ricks,” in honor of the Mormon pioneer and city founder, Thomas Edwin Ricks. This pleasant community sits about half an hour north of Idaho Falls. Rebuilt after the devastating Teton Dam flood in 1976, a museum dedicated to the flood and Rexburg’s history is now one of the town's major attractions.

Rexburg is home to BYU-Idaho (formerly Ricks College), Yellowstone Bear World, the International Dance and Music Festival and nearby, the St. Anthony Sand Dunes.
