The city of Victor was established in spring of 1899, shortly after the Mormon colony inhabited Driggs. Newer immigrants were advised to go south of Driggs, to what is now identified as Victor. The line of cabins that were built to house these new residents in Victor became known as “The String.”
Originally called Raymond, the town of Victor was renamed to honor Claud Victor. Claud was a mail carrier who, despite the Bannock Indian Scare of 1895, continued to deliver mail across the Teton Pass. The Mormon Church governed the town of Victor until a townsite was granted by the federal government in 1901.
Today, the city of Victor is a popular stop for Yellowstone National Park visitors. The area is also site for the Grand Teton Brewing Company, the original brewery of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
