This museum features dozens of fun and educational exhibits featuring the world's most popular vegetable and Idaho's most famous product. Old farming equipment, 1600-year-old Peruvian vessels, a video presentation and the Spud Cellar Gift Shop with almost any potato gift imaginable.

In 1812 there had been some wildfires and people who walked through the burned areas got their moccasins all black. In the summer of 1818 a group of trappers and traders from the Hudson's Bay Company passed through. They referred to the people they met in the area as the Indians with the black feet, or the "Blackfoot Crowd", because of the blackened footwear.

Blackfoot is considered the "Potato Capital of the World", because it has the largest potato industry in the world. It is home to the Idaho Potato Museum, which details the history of Idaho's potato industry. Blackfoot is also home to the Eastern Idaho State Fair, which operates between Labor Day weekend and the following weekend.

This portion of the Blackfoot River Canyon makes an excellent back country drive past steep canyon cliffs. Aspen and cottonwood trees support nesting golden eagles, prairie falcons, red-tailed hawks, great horned owls and other raptor species.

An interpretive nature trail takes visitors though an incredible 5,200 year-old basaltic lava flow with paved walkways. Twenty-five engraved signs on the hike identify aspects of the lava flow's unique ecosystem.
