In 1866, Mormon pioneers arrived in the northern end of the Cache Valley. They founded a community, first naming it Worm Creek, but later changed the name to Preston after Preston, England, the center of early Mormon proselytizing in the UK.
Preston is the home town of Jared and Jerusha Hess and much of their 2004 hit comedy "Napoleon Dynamite" was shot in the city of Preston. Several area landmarks can be seen throughout the film, including Preston High School.
Not many know that another film preceded "Napoleon Dynamite". "Peluca", which introduced the characters, was made in B & W with the goal of securing financing for the feature-length version.
